Why one unit can't do the whole house
A portable purifier only cleans the room it's in; its clean air doesn't travel meaningfully through doorways, halls and up stairs. Even a huge unit parked in the hallway will barely touch the bedrooms. Cleaning depends on turning over a room's own air (air changes per hour), and that only happens where the unit actually is.
Your realistic options
- One unit per key room (most common). Prioritise the bedrooms and main living space — the rooms you occupy most. Size each with what size do I need.
- Move one unit around. A single purifier wheeled to the room in use works if you're mostly in one place at a time — cheaper, less coverage.
- Whole-house HVAC filtration. If you have ducted central heating/AC or MVHR, a high-grade (e.g. MERV-13) filter in the system filters air throughout — but that's a system upgrade, not a plug-in, and needs the ductwork to support it.
