Air purifier for renovation and building dust

In one line: sanding, plastering, cutting and demolition throw out enormous amounts of fine dust. A rugged HEPA unit with a strong washable pre-filter helps clear the fine airborne dust that settles for days afterward — but it's a finisher, not a substitute for dust control during the heavy work.

Where a purifier helps — and where it doesn't

During active sanding or demolition, dust is generated far faster than any room purifier can keep up with, and heavy dust will clog filters quickly. So the priorities during work are source control: dust sheets, sealing off rooms, tools with dust extraction, and wearing proper PPE. Where a purifier shines is after and between — clearing the persistent fine dust that hangs in the air and re-settles for days once the big mess is swept.

What to look for

Safety: do not rely on a home air purifier for hazardous dusts such as silica (from concrete/stone cutting), lead paint or asbestos — those need specialist controls and, for asbestos, licensed removal. A HEPA room unit is for ordinary construction dust, not hazardous material.
