Air purifier vs air conditioner
In one line: an air conditioner changes the air's temperature; an air purifier changes its cleanliness. They do different jobs — a standard AC doesn't filter fine particles, and a purifier doesn't cool — so many homes benefit from both.

Why AC isn't an air purifier
Air conditioners have a filter, but it's a coarse mesh meant to protect the machine and catch large dust — not the fine PM2.5 that matters for health. AC recirculates and cools air; it doesn't provide HEPA-grade filtration and can't remove gases or odours. So "I have AC, do I need a purifier?" — yes, if clean air is the goal.
Using them together
They complement each other well: the AC keeps you comfortable, the purifier keeps the air clean. In summer, close windows to help the AC work, and run the purifier continuously so you're not trading comfort for stale, unfiltered air.
