Air purifier not blowing much air?
In one line: weak airflow is almost always something restricting the air path — a clogged filter, leftover plastic wrapping, a blocked intake, or simply eco/night mode on a low speed. Work down the checklist below and it's usually a two-minute fix.
Checklist, most common first
- Plastic still on the filter. New filters ship wrapped — if you never removed it, airflow will be tiny. Open up and take it off.
- Clogged filter. A loaded HEPA or dusty pre-filter chokes airflow. Clean the pre-filter; replace the HEPA/carbon if due (intervals).
- It's on a low/eco/night speed. These are deliberately gentle. Turn the speed up, or in auto mode the air may just be clean so it's idling low.
- Blocked intake or outlet. Pushed against a wall, boxed in, or curtains over it — give it clear space (placement).
- Filter not seated / panel ajar. A slightly open cover can drop it into a low mode or stop it running properly. Reseat and close fully.
- Compared to expectation. Small units simply don't move much air — if it's undersized for the room it'll feel weak even when working (sizing).
If none of that fixes it
If airflow is still weak after fresh filters, a clear air path and a high speed, the fan or motor may be failing — especially if it's old or also noisy or smells of burning (see why it smells). At that point it's usually time to replace the unit.
